Where Your Career And Business Always Gets The Royal Treatment

Look at your resume. Cover up or erase the top section that has your name and contact information.  As you read it, do you think that this could be ANYBODY’S resume?  What makes this resume any different from someone else’s going for the same job?  Most of the time when we do this exercise with clients, they can never provide an answer.

We use this exercise as an example of how a recruiter or hiring manager looks at your resume.  What really makes you standout on a resume to get someone to call and speak with you to schedule an interview?  Your accomplishments and results are what make you stand out!

We come across SO many resumes that merely look like a rehashed list of job descriptions.  While those are important, recruiters and hiring managers are looking for much more than that.  Your resume is a glimpse of your career history as it relates to the impact you made on the companies you’ve worked for and your skillful application of the knowledge and training you’ve acquired during that time.  In other words, what you were able to do for one company is an indicator of the success you will have with future companies.  You’ve obviously demonstrated that you can get results if you have them on your resume.  That precious 8-12 seconds that someone spends on your resume should result in an interview and not looked at like a waste of time because you didn’t sell yourself well.

If you are not sure what is considered an accomplishment or results that you can list on your resume, take a look at this article.  It is truly important to have these on your resumes because it is truly the difference between getting an interview and not getting one.
